Once you’ve decided on a Carnival cruise for your next vacation, you still have some big decisions to make, starting with: how do I choose an itinerary?

There are a number of factors to consider when choosing your cruise itinerary, from cruise length and the highlights of the different Fun Ships, to embarkation points and ports of call. Depending on who you’re cruising with—for example, with the kids, the whole family, yourself, or just one beloved companion—you may even make your selection based on an overall vacation style.

Let’s start with how much time you can take for your cruise vacation. From just a couple of days to a cruise of more than a week, Carnival offers a range of itineraries of varying lengths. You can check out the advantages of short cruises and longer cruises alike here.

The next consideration is where you would like to embark on your cruise from. The different homeports of the Carnival fleet will typically determine which ships you can sail on and which regions you can sail to from that homeport. Many cruises include transfers from the airport so don’t feel like you must only choose embarkation ports close to where you live. Just think: if you travel to your embarkation port, you have the opportunity to explore a new city before or after your cruise.

As you zero in your embarkation port of choice, you’ll also be able to choose from different itineraries based on which ports of call are included on each sailing. Our Destinations section has all the scoop on the ports we sail to, in the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska and in other parts of the world.

Alternatively, if you have a favorite Fun Ship, or are interested in experiencing one of Carnival’s newest ships, visit our Ships section to read all about what you’ll find onboard each ship in our fleet.

Finally, if you’re making a decision based on the overall style of your vacation, whether it’s action-packed adventure, foodie favorites, or a trip focused on total relaxation, you can browse the various onboard activities our ships offer as well as what you can expect from shore excursions to help you narrow down your final selection.

The good news is you can’t go wrong with any Carnival cruise itinerary. We truly offer something for everyone, in all corners of the globe. The journey to booking is all part of the fun, so enjoy the ride!
