U.S. Passport Card

Updated 06/05/2019 09:13 AM
The passport card will facilitate entry and expedite document processing at U.S. land and sea ports-of-entry when arriving from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The card may not be used to travel by air outside the United States. It will otherwise carry the rights and privileges of the U.S. passport book.
The Department of State is issuing the passport card in response to the needs of border resident communities for a less expensive and more portable alternative to the traditional passport book. The card has the same validity period as a passport book: 10 years for an adult (age 16 and older); five years for minors (under 16 years of age).
- New passport card cost: $55 (age 16 and older) | $40 (minors under 16 years of age)
- Passport card renewal (by mail) cost: $30
