Reserving Sun Loungers

Published 03/11/2015 10:00 PM   |    Updated 02/22/2024 09:51 AM
Chairs and loungers on the pool deck are in high demand, particularly during days at sea when many guests want to enjoy time in the sun and pools.

Carnival has a system designed to ensure that all guests are able to enjoy equal access to sun loungers by preventing seat saving in outdoor deck areas.

Shipboard team members, the ‘ChairShare Team’ monitor sun lounger usage and if they observe a seat that contains a towel or personal belongings (flip-flops, books, etc.) but appears to be unoccupied, a sticker is placed on the chair indicating the time the sticker was placed and when personal items will be removed. If the chair remains unoccupied for 40 minutes, the contents are removed and held for the guest’s safekeeping.

“We stopped by at _____ and found this chair empty,” the stickers read. “Hope you’re having a great time… but for the benefit of all we limit how long chairs can be left unattended. At _____ we’ll move your stuff to the towel hut for safekeeping.”

The timed stickers also give other guests a point of reference for when more chairs might become available, permitting them to return and check for newly opened chairs at a later time.

Announcements are made over the ship’s public address system by the cruise director, reminding guests of the policy; the policy is also noted on signage in outdoor deck areas, in the Carnival HUB App and displayed on the Seaside Theater poolside screen.
