In an effort to expedite the Custom's process upon debarkation, United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is piloting the Mobile Passport Control smartphone application in Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, Florida). This app will allow you to submit your passport and customs declaration via your smartphone instead of using the traditional paper method. If you have a smartphone and are interested in using this new app, below is some information that will help you get started.

The application can be found in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Just search for 'Mobile Passport - Officially Authorized by CBP' and download.

Complete the 'New Trip' section of the app as follows:

  • Select cruise port as your mode of entry into the U.S
  • Set up your trip
    • Select the Travelers
    • Choose the Port of Entry (Port Everglades)
    • Select the Cruise Line (Carnival)
    • Select the Terminal (#)
  • Scan your passport
  • Take a picture of yourself with your phone
  • Answer the standard CBP customs declaration questions

No more than four hours prior to debarking the ship, submit the 'New Trip' section.  After reviewing the submission, CBP will send a digital, secure bar-coded receipt to your smartphone via the app. This receipt will expire in four (4) hours.

You will then proceed through the terminal, following the Mobile Passport Control signs until prompted by a CBP officer to place your digital bar-coded receipt on the barcode scanner to a CBP officer. Unless further inspection is necessary, you will exit the terminal area once completed.  It's important to note that if your submission is rejected, you must complete the paper form.

CBP's Mobile Passport Application is only available to U.S citizens and Canadian citizens.
